Challenge
A research team at Georgia Tech needed to visually explain a proprietary magnetic intubation device designed to address common procedural challenges. While the engineering concept was strong, they struggled to clearly communicate the relevant anatomy and step-by-step workflow to both clinical audiences and broader stakeholders. They required medically accurate visuals that could function in lectures, conference presentations, and marketing materials, without the budget or timeline for animation.
Clarity is achieved through precision, not complexity.
Strategy & Process
We developed a sequential 2D illustration series designed to replicate the clarity of animation through still imagery. A soft anatomical palette against a muted background ensured approachability while maintaining clinical credibility.
Working closely with the research team, each illustration was reviewed for anatomical accuracy and procedural fidelity. The stepwise format allowed viewers to follow device placement and function clearly, minimizing visual noise while emphasizing key mechanical interactions. The hand-rendered style added warmth without sacrificing precision, supporting both educational and promotional use.
Impact
The illustration series became a central communication tool across marketing materials, conference presentations, and educational lectures. By clearly visualizing anatomy and device interaction, the visuals supported early-stage stakeholder engagement and strengthened discussions around the device’s value and clinical relevance. The project demonstrates how precise 2D medical illustration can accelerate understanding in complex procedural contexts.
Why I Included This
This project highlights the power of high-quality medical illustration to communicate complex procedural concepts without motion. It reflects my approach to balancing accuracy with visual clarity — particularly in early-stage medtech innovation where understanding drives momentum.
